Waimarie Apartments - Lord Howe Island

Lord Howe Island is located 420 nautical miles north east of Sydney, less than two hours flight from Sydney or Brisbane by Qantas flight. Listed as one of Australia’s first World Heritage Sites, in 1982, it is often described as the most beautiful island in the world. Mountains at the southern end, over 850 metres high, look down, to the west, on a crescent shaped lagoon, fringed by the most southerly coral reef in the world. The eastern side offers wonderful, clean sandy surf beaches. There are many endemic birds and plant species.

Walking, snorkelling, scuba diving, fishing, birdwatching, surfing, kayaking, kite surfing, golf, bowls, or simply unwinding from the mainland stress are right outside the door to your accommodation. The pace of life is gentle, 25kph is the speed limit. Most people get around on foot, or cycle. The air is clean, the water crystal clear, the beaches clean, and uncrowded. The words “idyllic paradise” are well earned. 

Waimarie offer two adjoining boutique apartments. Each have one bedroom, with spacious accommodation for couples, well equipped kitchens, a spacious living area, king size bed, and a generous bathroom. Excellent views of the lagoon, and mountains are enjoyed from all rooms. Barbecue facilities make the most of the spectacular views, and sunsets.”

Our Thoughts on Waimarie
Lord Howe Island is a very special place for a holiday and Waimarie is a very special place to stay.  Built in the mid-1980s (by a Kiwi guy who married a local girl), the design of the 2 units at Waimarie have stood the test of time, but in 2016, the current owners, who are family members of the original owner, decided to totally up-grade the property and they have done an incredible job modernising and improving both apartments while fully maintaining the spirit of the original units in the context of this remarkable island. The owners live next door and are on-hand to provide any assistance required.

The renewal of the units include: All new windows and doors throughout, All new ceilings with LED down lights, All new flooring, window coverings, new lounge dining table etc. The new kitchen includes new bench tops and splashback, new fridge with freezer, microwave, 4 burner gas cook top and rangehood, new sink, all new crockery, cutlery and glassware including wine glasses and champagne flutes, cooking utensils, electric jug, toaster and coffee plunger, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, yoga mat, backpacks, picnic set, beach umbrella, rain umbrella, beach towels. The Entertainment System includes Bluetooth wifi speakers, TV, DVD player, assorted DVDs, books and board games. Complementary Wifi is now offered. 

Bedrooms feature a King Bed with fine French linen, walk in robe, and bathrobes supplied.

The bathrooms are totally new.  In the bathroom, guests enjoy Matakana Botanical products - shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand wash, and Bee Organics body lotion (all from NZ) and beautiful Australian hand-rolled soap balls/olive oil soaps.

We know you will enjoy the personal service you receive at Waimarie.  Upon arrival at Lord Howe Island, Waimarie meet their guests at the airport and en route to your apartment, take you for an orientation drive around the island pointing out places of interest, shops, restaurants, banks, hospital, post office, museum, etc. The hosts are happy to call at a grocery shop so guests can stock-up on groceries if required as well as calling at the bike hire to collect bikes, if cycling is the way you have decided to get around Lord Howe.

On arrival at your apartment, guests receive a bottle of French champagne, (or Red or White wine if preferred), postcards (ready for posting), freshly ground coffee and homemade cookies. Owners are on hand to supply assistance at any time, but respect guests’ privacy at all times.  From the list of improvements above, it is easy to see that this place has provides several pleasant “extra” touches for guests – such things as yoga mats for enjoying yoga in these pristine surroundings, a picnic set and a backpack for walks while exploring the natural highlights of Lord Howe.

Finally, we need to mention the views from Waimarie; these are spectacular. The apartments boast magnificent views of the mountains and lagoon from the bedroom, lounge room, deck and BBQ areas. In summertime you can watch the sun set into the ocean from your deck. Waimarie is one of only 2 accommodation places on Lord Howe Island with views to this extent. The superb view is due in some part to the fact that Waimarie overlooks a portion of the island’s airstrip. The airstrip is not a problem for guests as it is only used by smaller jet-prop aircraft and on weekdays there is only one flight a day. In the weekends there is one flight a day in the winter months and 4-5 flights a day during the summer time. Watching the planes land provides plenty of interest and enjoyment for guests. The noise is certainly not an issue - a few minutes a day only then uninterrupted quiet prevails.

Your Accommodation Options
Lord Howe Island has firm rules limiting the maximum number of visitors the island can accommodate at any one time and all accommodation providers are licensed for a particular maximum number of adult guests.  Waimarie is licensed for a total of 4 adults - 2 in each apartment.  Both apartments have a decent-sized deck out front and this is a very pleasant place to relax and take in what are some of the best views available on Lord Howe Island.

Existing Bedding: 1 King Bed which can split into 2 Single Beds.
Additional Bedding: 1 child aged under 5 may be accommodated in a cot.

Getting to and from Waimarie
Flights between Brisbane and Lord Howe Island operate weekly on a Sunday.  Flights between Sydney and Lord Howe Island operate daily by modern jet-prop aircraft operated by Qantas Link.

Waimarie is located on Lagoon Road, midway between Windy Point and "Blinky" Beach. It is an easy 400 metre walk either to Blinky, (the premier surf beach), or the lagoon beach at Windy Point.  Cobby's Corner and the golf course are an easy flat walk of 600 metres. The walking tracks to Transit Hill, Intermediate Hill, Goat House and Boat Harbour are very handy. Lagoon Road runs roughly north to south on the western side of the island.  It is a flat road for most of its distance so walking and biking anywhere along its length is pleasant and picturesque.  Various short roads which transit the island all run off Lagoon Road.  Rental cars are available in limited numbers on Lord Howe Island, so we recommend you book a car in advance of arrival to avoid disappointment.  We are happy to organise a car for you in package arrangements.

Waimarie provide arrival and departure airport transfers and will happily provide an evening transfer for guests wishing to dine out at restaurants on the island and they have an arrangement with the restaurants to transfer Waimarie guests back “home” again after their meal. 
 
Kids Policy
Waimarie is licenced for 2 adults per apartment and although children are welcome, Waimarie mainly appeals to singles and couples due to its lovely location (tucked away from the centre of town) and its quiet seclusion. Children 5 years and under are able to stay in the apartment with parents free of charge and the property has a cot and a highchair available. Babysitting can be arranged on request. There is a kids’ playground 5-minutes (on the flat) bike ride away.

Check-in times coincide well with arrival flight times from Sydney and Brisbane (approximately 2:15pm arrival).  Outward flights usually depart in the mid-afternoon, but the 10:00am check-out time is no problem for departing guests as Waimarie has a Transit Room (with shower and toilet) which departing guests are welcome to use to freshen-up before leaving Waimarie for the airport. The airport terminal is only minutes away.

Deposit & Cancellation Policy
Bullet The cost of staying 1 night is required as a deposit when booking is confirmed.
Bullet Balance of accommodation charge is required 6 weeks prior to arrival
Bullet All cancellations must be made in writing.
Bullet Cancellations made up to 6 weeks prior to scheduled arrival incur no
     cancellation fee.
Bullet Cancellations made within 6 weeks of scheduled arrival and no-shows
     incur a cancellation fee equal to the full cost of the booking made.
