Great Barrier Reef
On Heron Island the emphasis is on enjoying natural beauty. Heron Island is small enough to walk around in 20 minutes, yet it has everything you could wish for, with is white sand beaches, extraordinary marine life, some of the best diving known and even turtles that return year after year to nest (November to March). Come June you may see whales passing by on their annual pilgrimage and during the year no less than 19 different species of birds visit annually to breed.
Heron Island resort caters for couples and families in the 109 room resort and all rooms have ceiling fans and either balconies or terraces. The Shearwater Restaurant satisfies healthy appetites and a buffett breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in your stay. There is a deep water swimming pool and bar for your enjoyment.
There are a number of complimentary activities available such as guided reef and birdlife walks, snorkeling lessons, tennis, table tennis, marine documentaries and more. Charges however do apply for diving and fishing charters, sunset wine and cheese cruises and the Heron Kids Junior Rangers Program for 7-12 years that operates in the Australian school holidays.
To get to Heron Island you must fly into Gladstone where a coach will meet you and transfer you to the Heron island launch which departs daily at 11.00am. The 170 seater launch has a top speed of 30 knots and takes approximately 2 hours to get to the Island. You can also helicopter to Heron Island from Gladstone Airport. The launch departs Heron Island to connect with the flight at 5.30pm departing from Gladstone Airport.
Your Accommodation Options
All 109 rooms feature a balcony or terrace, ceiling fans, refrigerator, tea/coffee making facilities, beach towels, ironing facilities, hairdryers, and umbrellas. There are no televisions or telephones in the majority of the rooms. Mobile phone coverage is not available on the island.
Turtle Room
Family Turtle rooms are ground level and located in a garden setting and just a short stroll to the beach and the resort restaurant, pool and bar. The Queen Turtle rooms are closer to North Beach.
Maximum Occupancy: Family 4 persons, Queen 2 persons

Reef Room
Reef rooms interiors are light and comfortable with a living area extending outdoors to a balcony or garden. The Family Reef rooms are either close to the jetty, resort facilities and near the Marine Centre or along the walking path to Shark Bay at the eastern reach of the resort. Family rooms are either upstairs or downstairs and most offer waterviews through a canopy of beachside trees and shrubs. The standard Reef rooms are located on North Beach.

Beachside Suite
The Beachside suites offer filtered views of the reef and are set in prime locations with access to both the beach and the reef. Double glass sliding doors fill the room with natural light and connect the spacious bedroom and separate living area with a large outdoor balcony. The living area features two large and luxurious day beds, as well as a mini bar and CD player.
Maximum Occupancy: 4 persons
Existing Bedding Configuration: King size bed in bedroom and 2 day beds in the lounge.
Wistari Suite
Wistari Suites offer a secluded garden setting with maximum privacy. Air conditioned with mini-bar. A private outdoor terrace features wooden furniture and a two person hammock.
Maximum Occupancy: 2 persons
Existing Bedding Configuration: 1 King, or 2 king singles.
Point Suite
Point Suites are positioned with uninterrupted views of the reef and have a separate large dressing room. A generous living area extends through glass doors to an outdoor terrace with sun lounges. They are air conditioned, with mini-bar and CD player.

Existing Bedding Configuration: 1 King Bed or 2 king singles
The Beach House
The one and only Beach House offers maximum privacy and is located beachside and set within a grove of trees with direct access to the beach via a boardwalk. The Beach House is air conditioned and features a separate bedroom and spacious en suite. The living area opens out onto a private patio with outdoor furniture. There is a mini-bar and CD player.
Maximum Occupancy: 3 persons
Existing Bedding Configuration: 1 King bed and a single divan that doubles as a day bed.
Getting to and from Heron Island
Access to Heron Island is from Gladstone Marina - the launch departs daily at 11.00am. If you arrive at Gladstone Airport then you will be transferred to the Marina. The 'Heron Islander' is 34 metres and seats 170 with a top speed of 30 knots (55kmh). The trip takes approximately 2 hours. On departure the launch leaves Heron Island early afternoon and arrives at Gladstone Marina at 3.45pm, in plenty of time to connect with 5.30pm airline departures from Gladstone Airport.
Kids Policy
Up to 2 children 2 – 12 years stay and eat free when sharing with 2 adults in existing bedding.
Cancellation Policy
7 to 4 days prior to arrival – 1 night’s accommodation fee applies.
Within 72 hours or arrival – 100% cancellation fee applies.
14 December 2012 – 14 January 2013 – within 30 days of arrival a 100% cancellation fee applies.
